Lull A Bye - Part I ============== Close your eyes Sleep tonight Let the darkness inside Don't you cry When I say goodbye
2.
The Spotlight =========== In times of trouble There's only one Thing that can save your mind The darkness doubles You pray for sun But it's something you never find Grab the spotlight In its halo you will fly Grab the spotlight Us its halo to hide From all the strife When all you have are tears And you'd rather die To save the world the trouble Is it the darkness you fear? Or the fall from on high? That's when your pain doubles Grab the spotlight In its halo you will fly Grab the spotlight Us its halo to hide From all the strife Deep in the shadows you Wrap the darkness around you You don't know where to climb And deep in the shadows when you Wrap that darkness around you Will you ever know on high? And I still feel like I did that night In the darkness of my light 'Cos I still feel like I did that night In the darkness of my light Somehow I will turn back to the night…

In No Mood For Murder ================== Even though the world is falling Apart Even though the night is so Dark It seems to be all that I Can do Yet, I'm in no mood for murder… I need to resist the urge To kill I need to insist on honing My skills A passion for what Is True 'Cos I'm in no mood for murder… I will philosophize with hammer strikes I will sympathize with drama dykes This is a hatred that I never knew What else can I do? Forced myself to walk This path Forced myself to be free At last In the end it's what I Must do So that I'm in no mood for murder…
5.
Loneliness My Friend ================ Lately I've felt alone You never call me on the telephone And I wonder where have you gone? And wonder should I be even writing this song I don't know anymore If you even love me anymore I don't know anymore If you even love me anymore And in the night I still cry And by the light I dream I might survive But one day You'll take my hand And lead me through the dark shadows That infect this land Infect the land But I'm so very lonely once again I'm so very lonely How are you my friend? I'm so very lonely I don't know when this will end And in the time that I lay down in bed I'll think of all the times I had thoughts of you running through my head And in those nights of all the darkness In those acts I'm all alone I'm alone I'm truly alone again In the night I'm alone So alone So alone…
6.
Dying In The Jungle =============== The bullet pierced my heart As I lay dying in the rain Thoughts of what I lost Flew through my brain All alone in the jungle Dying alone in the jungle From up above I watch My dying body convulse Crying out to those I love Or for a spirit I could trust So I'm not alone in the jungle Dying alone in the jungle
7.
The Couple & That Wild Night ======================== It was a dark february night Their car was broken down At the 7/11 gas bar They asked for a ride We said sure we can help That was the start of one wild night Across the city We took flight With that couple On that wild night It was a dark back alley In some industrial park They said it was their apartment They thanked us for the ride But as they walked away They disappeared into that wild night Across the city We took flight With that couple On that wild night In the light of the daytime We returned to make sense Of where they went in the shadows But there were only factory walls With nowhere to hide On that dark and shadowy wild night Across the city We took flight With that couple On that wild night

The Highway 05:33
The Highway ========== Too many lanes spread out before me Too much pain stirs deeply behind me I took the on-ramp to get away To start moving forward again On the highway of life I drive Past construction & detours sublime At the end of the road Is the purpose I hope to find So I'm on the highway And I just feel like driving And I just need to drive Rest stops & landmarks breeze by Off-ramps & service roads defy My sense of time as I progress Away from the pain of regress On the highway of life I drive Past construction & detours sublime At the end of the road Is the purpose I hope to find So I'm on the highway And I just feel like driving And I just need to drive We all travel life's road An endless journey of hope Time passes by like road signs This purpose we need to find! On the highway of life I drive Past construction & detours sublime At the end of the road Is the purpose I hope to find So I'm on the highway And I just feel like driving And I just need to drive

Patricia 03:17
Patricia ====== The forest Path unfolds Leading to that ancient oak Where your footprints disappear in the dirt Your sister’s tears still fall Your name we still do call No trace of you we have found We’ve searched for endless nights Since you were lost from our sights Your voice we no longer hear And I’m left alone with my fears Patricia from me you are lost Patricia I don’t know the cost Your sister’s tears still fall Can you not hear our call? Patricia… It’s like I’ve never known you before Yet our souls are oh so close I wonder what this all means Your sister is our true connection But I still have lost your direction And the darkness is all I see We’ve searched for endless nights Since you were lost from our sights Your voice we no longer hear And I’m left alone with my fears Patricia from me you are lost Patricia I don’t know the cost Your sister’s tears still fall Can you not hear our call? Patricia… In the night as she runs her hands Through my hair I hear her sigh And her tears run down her cheeks Bathing my face in her salty hopes We will find you We will hold you We will love you One more time… Patricia…

Shadows On My Soul ================ In the shadows I cry All those times in the night And in the shadows I still see Some hope for a fight In the night I still stumble On that broken sidewalk And in my eyes all the tears That never stopped rolling down My bruised cheeks in this night And the darkness encompasses All my thoughts and all my dreams All my desires so long… And I dream of your touch I dream of your touch That you'll run your hands Again through my hair In the night I'll dream of you In the darkness And in the dew And you'll wrap Your arms around me Hold me tight and tell me It'll be alright It'll be alright Even though I never knew What happened from the start It'll still be alright I might be alright I might be alright I might be alright I might be alright If I could just find Find the light I walk the path Through the shadows In my heart And in my soul I'll walk the path Where no one goes In the shadows Of my soul There's a darkness No one knows It's the shadow On my soul But in the end You're all I have Wrap me in shadows So I'm not cold Run your hands Through my hair Wrap me in shadows Shadows… Wrap me in shadows Wrap me in shadows Shadows On my soul On my soul
12.
Beginning To Understand ==================== I was hoping that I might Possibly, if I try, in my own way To become ok With beginning to understand What happened that night I was thinking that if I contemplate A meditation I once thought To review & rethink What I'm beginning to understand is What happened that night Cracks in the sidewalk Where I stumble Smacks of regret From when I tumbled… One day I'll understand One day I'll understand In the end What is final Is a cul-de-sac Where I'll stop And step no more Down this path of ruin Where I never understood What happened that night
13.
Lull A Bye - Part II ============== I closed my eyes So I could dream tonight In the darkness I hide So I wouldn’t cry When you said goodbye…

=====================

Candle's twelfth studio album continues the theme of dealing with the trauma of his Dark Years, a theme that was first explored on the hugely successful album Catharsis (candle.bandcamp.com/album/catharsis). Imrpovised, written, & recorded as part of the 2023 edition of February Album Writing Month (FAWM - www.fawm.org), Confronting The Shadows delves deeper into the specific physical & metaphysical events that contributed to the malaise & depression Darby suffered in his youth. All these years later, Darby is attempting to begin to deal with this trauma & to start to move forward by Confronting The Shadows.

Many of these tracks were improvised live-to-tape in order to capture the raw emotions the music evokes The tracks that were not improvised were also recorded live-to-tape. Every song was recorded with no overdubs in post-production, every sound was captured in real time as the recording progressed. The minimal instrumentation also highlights the emotional underscore of each song with the intent of focusing on the healing journey the music provokes & less on the technical perfectionism usually expected from musical recordings.

What people are saying about the album:

"Really nice, powerful and anthemic despite the minimal instrumentation."
- Ken Ficara, FAWM

"Thank you for sharing your healing journey, you have no idea how inspiring it has been... "
- Joanne Gabriel, FAWM

"Everyone else would have done this with guitar, bass and drums and rendered it generic, but doing it with just electric guitar really makes it sound unique and strange."
- Silvermachine, FAWM

"This is epic. I listened to this on my earbuds while on a nighttime walk in a part of the neighborhood that gets quite dark at night with just my flashlight to light the way (it's very safe here, don't worry, mostly old people)… The guitar solos were terrific. Keep going down that pathway!!"
- Daniel Jun Kim (a.k.a. The Popmythologist), FAWM

"Hearing big time Roky Erickson vibes on this, and that's a good thing! Haunting and intense, with lots of dynamics to keep it interesting...not always an easy thing to do when you're playing solo. And, it's a really effective performance, especially considering the minimalist instrumentation. "
- doglatin, FAWM

"We all have shadows if we're truly as honest as you are. There are always things holding us back in the comfort zone or safety of our minds. I like the perserverance I sense in this piece, seeking truth, to better oneself and to continue on in the journey of life and the journey of the mind. A very relatable write. Very nice."
- Sunfire, FAWM

"Very haunting, and engaging."
- spazsquatch, FAWM

"Epic. Just epic."
- Ken Mattsson, FAWM

I hope this album makes you pause & consider your own past & the shadows you hide within yourself. Perhaps we may all confront our shadows & begin to move forward again.

See You In The Shadows…
