about
This is a true story. This was but one incident that happened to my best friend & me on one wild night in February years ago (during my Dark Times). We had pulled into the 7/11 Gas Bar close to where both our parents lived to fill up his car. We had just had a crazy experience & were hoping the rest of the night would be more "normal" (whatever the #311 "normal" really is). While we were there, we were approached by this young couple in their late '20's (we were 18 at the time, iirc) who said they'd accidentally filled up their car with diesel fuel instead of unleaded gas. They asked if we could give them a lift home & we agreed.
Turns out, their "home" was on the other side of the city, down some back alley in an industrial park. We were both kind of nervous & suspicious, but they told us to stop the car. They got out, pointing to an alley where they said their appartment door was located. So we watched them go, disappearing into the shadows of the alley. We didn't see any lights turn on (as if a door had opened) & we didn't know where they went. We were freaked right out, so we got out of there.
We returned a few days later, in the daylight, to see where the couple might have gone. We went back to the same spot where we had let them out. There was nothing there: just solid factory walls. To this day, I have no idea where they went, who they were, or what actually happened.
What people are saying about That Couple & That Wild Night:
"Wow, this is really catchy!! Really love how this shows off your considerable vocal chops in a ways that not many of your songs do (since you do a lot of instrumentals). Terrific chorus that has kind of a great classic rock feel for me (a la "Don't Stop Believing"). Also, spooky story!!!"
- Daniel Jun Kim (a.k.a. The Popmythologist), FAWM
"What a great vocal and with the benefit of a truly weird true story as the lyric. Everyone else would have done this with guitar, bass and drums and rendered it generic, but doing it with just electric guitar really makes it sound unique and strange. So good."
- Silvermachine, FAWM
"Terrific, evocative story, which you’ve turned into a terrific, evocative song. This has an “electric Americana” sound to it that calls to my mind open corn fields and dark, windy night in a crumbling downtown in a crumbling nation. Very compelling, with your impassioned vocals really selling the story and experience!"
- odilongreen, FAWM
Sometimes taking to the road is the best way to begin to move beyond the darkness inside.

The Couple & That Wild Night
========================
It was a dark february night
Their car was broken down
At the 7/11 gas bar
They asked for a ride
We said sure we can help
That was the start of one wild night
Across the city
We took flight
With that couple
On that wild night
It was a dark back alley
In some industrial park
They said it was their apartment
They thanked us for the ride
But as they walked away
They disappeared into that wild night
Across the city
We took flight
With that couple
On that wild night
In the light of the daytime
We returned to make sense
Of where they went in the shadows
But there were only factory walls
With nowhere to hide
On that dark and shadowy wild night
Across the city
We took flight
With that couple
On that wild night
