The Drums Of Oblivion

about

This is the result of a suggestion made to me by fellow FAWMer iwilleatyou. The suggestion was to do a percussion only song using my composition techniques. I experimented with the idea in a few of my previous songs, but this is the first one to put the idea into actuality. I'm pleased with the results, so thank you iwilleatyou!

So, the technical side of this was fun. I started out with my usual Mastering Chain in Jeskola Buzz & then added an ERS Drum Machines Template (that I had created a few years back) to the project. Next I hooked up the Elottronix XL VST (a Frippertonics emulator) & got it working just as I wanted. Then I started dropping in various effects that would play around with the actual sounds of the drums. A Jeskola Delay Buzz Machine to create some time-bending effects; Rymix's Flaser Box (a combination Phaser & Flanger); Devon's Leslie for some rotary modulation; CyanPhase's Sea Cucumber to mangle the tones (I'm still not entirely sure what it does, I just love the results) & FSM's ScrapMan to tear the audio apart. I used IX's wonderful PatchBay Buzz Machine to change the signal routings on-the-fly in real-time. The biggest thing I did though, was to use IX's Split to control the MIDI signals coming from my Kawai MS-710 keyboard & how they would trigger the various percussive sounds of the ERS Drums. Then I pressed record & started hitting those drums. The Drums Of Oblivion was the result.
