"A couple of FAWMs ago I listened to a track with samples taken from the Conet Project archive.org/details/ird059 I've always wanted to do something with these Cold-War era shortwave radio coded messages. This year, I decided I would do at least one song inspired by the Conet Project. Hence the tittle of this song 😉

Anyway, I took the 6th track from the first disc of the Conet Project (a track called "Lincolnshire Poacher") & used the five digit codes to create the melodic lines of this song (played on the piano). I picked a key (G) & then set about transcribing the code into music, the code numbers to determine the notes from the scale positions. I quickly decided that the number "0" meant a rest note. And then I followed the pattern of the message. The introductory code of five numbers replayed ten times, followed each code line played twice. I then added some background ambience thanks to HG Fortune's Astral Dreamer VSTi & that was it.

I wonder if there's a retired Spy out there who can still decode the message?

Funny thing. No native Buzz machines were used in the creation of any of these sounds. Just VSTi's. Some Buzz Machine FX & processing Machines yes, but no generators."
