From the Liner notes of FAWM 2015:
"PopMythology says:
Just playing with numbers.
The rhyme scheme of each verse is ABCABC to symbolize circular rotation.
The rhyme scheme of the chorus is AAAB, the equivalent of 1112, which I once read somewhere symbolizes newness and change (though I don’t know how true that is). But I do know that 1 + 1 + 1 + 2 = 5 which symbolizes many things but for my purposes here I chose the meaning of the union of order (2) and disorder (3), life and death.
Each verse has 6 lines the chorus has 4
6 + 4 = 10, symbolizing completion (of the cycle of death/rebirth)
10 syllables in the first line of each verse
11 in the second
12 in the third
10 + 11 + 12 = 33
33 in some occult circles represents death, rebirth and the highest spiritual attainment possible to a human being. It’s also a theoretical age when Christ was crucified.
3 sets of verse & chorus
33 syllables in each set
3 x 33 = 99
99, again in some spiritual and occult circles, is believed to symbolize
destruction, transmutation, resurrection.
What's it all mean? Nothing, it’s just fun. :)
And is this a song or a poem? I dunno, can an ABC rhyme scheme with 10, 11, 12 syllabic lines work in a song?
Longest liner notes ever. @popmythology out.
==========
Candle says:
Well, I'm gonna be adding to these long liner notes ;)
I loved @popmythology's lyrics & immediately started playing around with the math/numerology he was using. The first thing I did was figure out what notes were closest to the sorts of numbers he was using. I found C1 = 32.70hz (close to the 33 of the song) & C#6 = 1108.73hz (close to the 1112 in the song).
I decided to build scales starting in C & C# to be used for the verses &
choruses respectively. For the verse, I used his ABCABC pattern and
built a six note scale that follows a 1-2-3-1-2-3 step pattern. The
result was C-D-E#(F)-F#-G#-B. I did the same for the Chorus scale, using the 1112 numerology to build an eight note scale (1-1-1-2-1-1-1-2): C#-D-Eb-F-Gb-Abb(G)-Bbb(Ab)-Cb(B).
From these two scales I then built chords coming up with the following
chords: Fm/C; Bm/F#; Fm/Ab & G5/F for the verses & Ebm/C#; Gm/F; G#m/F# & Ebadd11 for the choruses.
Then I had to write the song. LOL
I just started playing my guitar & singing the lyrics until something
worked. Once I had the verse & chorus structure worked out, I recorded the vocals & guitar (with a bridge & some filler parts added in). I then dropped that recording into Buzz (via the Con Ware III WAV Player) & started adding "colour".
Here's a look at th Buzz project (to give you an idea of the crazy chain
I built):
upyourlegsforever.com/candle/FAWM2015/Ouroboros%20Buzz%20Project%20Screenshot%20-%20JPEG.jpg
Next, I rendered this Buzz project to a WAV file (via the Morex Word Out
Machine) & then dropped this WAV file into Audacity where overdubbed
the lead guitar & mixed in the un-processed Vocals & Rhythm guitar to
round out the song.
I'm not quite happy with the quality of the recording. There's a lot of
overmodulation & distortion. But I was running out of time & you get the
picture of where I was going with this. As such, this is the demo as it
is. I'll probably re-work it when I get some time after FAWM to clean up
the dirty over-modulated parts.
Thanks to @popmythology for letting me play around with his amazing
lyrics! It was lots of fun."

I hear a punk rock song, or something like that... very cool!

Excellent, I love the intricacy of the rhyme scheme and the
symbolism of the structure! Lots of vivid and nihilistic
imagery. I also don't know if this was intentional but I like
the potential double meanings of "scale" in the first line, in a
song context.

Your liners are genius, your concept is genius (and MY liner
notes are longer, haha). This is so good it makes me feel like
stealing part of them. Oops, forget about this. ;) Seriously,
Pop. Now pick a guitar, or a synth, or anything. You have it
inside, I know it.

'I must lose everything to gain something' powerful words and
resonate with plenty of people I'm sure. You could almost create
a whole other song from that line as a title. Nice. You are
somewhat of a wordsmith here too - amazing how you got
'fictitious veil' amongst other complex imagery into your
lyrics. G&D

I might just have to do something musically with this. Take up
your challenge (I know @Sapien & @Caterwauler have already
stolen a verse from this, but I can picture something else -
something a little more mystical). I'll mull it over tonight
when I get home from work & let you know what I come up with…
See You In The Shadows…

This is great stuff, both on the audible and the conceptual level!

I've just realized I had not commented on the demo of this song.
Wow! The concept of following Pop's original structure and to
build the sonic background according to numerology is brilliant.
Stunning interpretation of these stunning lyrics! The sense of
uneasiness conveyed by the music is great, growing and growing
until it's almost unbearable, then tension turns into an open
conflict, musically speaking. All these dissonances... Awesome.

@candle, it felt like one of Bauhaus's wrote one of their more
swirling pensive numbers and collaborated on it with Suicide.
@popmythology, my favorite lines were "i am Saturn taking apart
his own son," "pick the self apart one scale at a time" and
"swallow deep, impale my throat upon my tail." I like how this
showcases a very different style of writing than your other
pieces I've looked at so far.
