(From Candle's FAWM 2012 Notes)

A big departure for me in a few different ways. I had a sudden urge this morning to tap into my Alt-Rock/Classic-Rock roots. So I figured, hey why not - it's been a while since I just rocked. Well, this one doesn't rock as much as I had originally envisioned - which is fine. I like how it turned out in the end. It starts off kind of slow (I might shorten the intro a bit later on…) but then I like where it goes once the vocals come in. It's sort of more folky then I had envisioned… Prog-Folk maybe? I should really try to stop pigeon-holling my music into genres… I guess the folk is natural since most of the music produced locally is very folky in its core. And this is the music I've really been listening to a lot for the past few years. No wonder some folk has ebbed into my own musical repetoire…

Yes, I do some vocals on this one. All improvised & I think they came out pretty good (IMHO - LOL). They touch upon some of my favourite subjects: Politics & Society; Love & of course Spirituality & Metaphysics. Not too shaby for a crazy Nihilist-Existentialist LOL. And why the effects on the voice? Well, it's a side-effect of processing the entire signal thru Buzz. I wanted that distored twin-amp sound for the guitar & it just got washed onto the vocals as well. I think it sort of worked nicely together…

I guess lyrically this is a reaction to the socio-political upheaval of the last year or so. Also, it goes back to my own personal Philosophy that Individuals are much more potent forces of Change then Groups. "Be The Change You Want To See" is a great quote I often try to remember. And for me, Love is an all-powerful & unstoppable force. Thru Love we will raise ourselves up & higher - to be the better Humans we Potentially can be!

Anyway, I did this song in two takes (after initially playing around with the main riff, bassline & guitar chords). I didn't do the vocals until the second take (once all the music sort of came together) & as I said I sang them off the top of my head. I used the same setup that I've been using since Emergence *24904. This is all vocals & my strat. Listening back I can picture a piano part & maybe a guitar solo after the second chorus (the one with the Sun shining down part). Who knows what I'll do with this, but it's good some potential.

See You In The Shadows…

lyrics

We stood up one day
Then went away
We could see a new horizon
Somewhere over the hills
But in the end did anything change?
I can’t say…
I can’t say

Is this Liberation?
Is this Liberation?

We learnt all these new rhymes
Somewhere in time
The space around us seemed endless
Even tho somethings are needless
And in the morning
The sun rose above
Some other place
And I found Love
I felt Love
I felt Love
Love…

Cause it’s Liberation
It’s Liberation
Liberation
Liberation
It’s Liberation
Liberation
It’s Liberation
The Sun shinning down
Light all around
Sun shining down
Light all around
On this poor ground
It’s Liberation
Liberation
Liberation
Liberation

And in the end
Not much has changed
I still wake up
Each & every day
I hope to God I find
The Truth sometime
I hope to God I am
Something of a better Man
And in the Love
I feel from above
I can hold
Her in my arms
I can hold
Her in my arms

The Liberation
The Liberation
This Liberation
Liberation
Liberation
My Liberation
Liberation
Liberation
Liberation
